i have recently purchase a lr3 from my local dealer.last weekend i took my brother offroading in wales.although i held back from some of the more adventurious route the lr3 did everything i asked.to sum it up it was brillantttttttttttttt!

Hello,
Just up late with concern about my LR3. I bought it used a few months ago and I am having some electical issues (I think). While driving, the door locks go on and off and then the outside hazard lights will start flashing but without the inside blinkers flashing or the turn signal, locks, hazard button working at all. Thought this would calm down until there seemed to be some sort of system failure. Readout said back door unlocked which it wasn't and has not started since. Seems like a locking system failure and some sort of shut down mode. Any help? Problem: I live 3 hours from nearest dealer and concerned with others comments that this could be a slippery slop I am on........

2 year old disco 3 24000 miles no faults only wiper rubber. This is my sixth land rover product but the quality is superb, love it...

please remove my comment from opening ad as my comments are in praise of a perfect vehicle.I do not find it bottom of the jd power survey far from it, it exceeds all expectations.

2 year old Discovery 3 45000 miles with no dramas. Dealership support has been excellent. This is fourth Land Rover owned in last 10 years, 2xDiscos & 2xDefenders and all have provided reliable high mileage service.

I have had 4 land rovers, the first a late model disco 2 had an small oil leak & fuel leak - fixed.

I have owned 3 disco 3's. 1 had a steering fault resulting in some slight clonking when going over bumps- fixed by the dealer. Every LR I have had has never not started first time & never broken down.

Before the LR's I owned a a new model Vauxhall Frontera. Complete auto gearbox failure, drive train failure, electircal failures, dangerous steering fault recall, you name it I had it.

More interesting information on Range Rover from an owner.

I bought a new LR3 14 month ago. 1 air suspension sensor changed at 2000 miles otherwise 30,000 trouble free mls both on and off road. Company just bought a second LR3 nothing else can match their on road/off road performance.

Adrian,
Don't you find it interesting that the vast majority of people that post entries on your site and add to your comments sections, are writing to tell you how good their Landrover's are? As you can see on these responses to the JD Power comment (Just FYI and by the way, you may need to update this, Landrover didn't come bottom in the latest JD Power survey) - all of them are in support of the product.
Don't you think that in fact most comments posted on a site that is strongly negative toward the brand, and that gives owners the chance to air their frustrations, would be in agreeance with you, and negative? In fact this isn't the case is it?
Could it be perhaps, that in fact you are in the vast minority...and dare I say it, may be wrong??
I can only comment from an Australian perspective, but can advise that the LR dealers out here (Ritters, MLR, ULR etc) are outstanding...as is the product.
Just something to consider whilst you spend hours of your time on a seemingly irrelevant and unfortunately flawed website??
By the way, the constant comments about Audi do make it read as though you are either linked to the company, or are receiving some form of benefit - just something to consider.
NB - The A7 certainly won't do "everything an LR3 will do" by the way, as I would not dream of taking it on anything other than a drive down a gravelled lane -certainly not on anything more serious that our Landies tackle daily.
However, I do give you credit for allowing the posting of so many entries that clearly disagree with your personal animosity toward Landrover. For a pro-claimed "anglophile" you certainly seem to have a strong bent toward hammering the British jobs tied up in production plants at Hailwood eh?

I am a very sad, frustrated LR3 owner. At first very excited. Purchased new in 2005 for $58,000 less than two months old the fun began. It is continuously undrivable. Breaking down and leaving me and my family stranded. It is not to be trusted. Land Rover has offered nothing except to try to make the repairs. This was a costly mistake and as a last resort I am hiring an attorney and pursuing the lemon law. It has been a very disappointing experience not to mention costly and unsafe. It seems that everyone at LR customer service could care less. Everything negative I have read hits home and I can relate to. The problems seem to be identicle. If only I had read these blogs before parting with all that money. I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE VOLVO! This was actually a sign I put in the window for one of the many flat bed rides to the dealership. I am sure to tell EVERYONE to stay away from Land Rover. What a terrible, terrible product and company. May the CEO get stuck in his Range Rover Sport with his family in the middle of the Bronx on a really hot day.........

Just to put the Audi Q7 in perspective folks, read is worrying blog: http://accident-audi-q7.skynetblogs.be/

Disco 3 owner very pleased, only been stuck once and that because she sank in the mud and bellied out. However abit upset that the tyres only lasted 26000 previous disco give 50000 on same set.

All tyres have worn out on the inside is this a common problem ?

All manufacturers build Lemons, its a fact. Not every car your build will be perfect and in the case of a 4X4 with Technology onboard the risks of something failing are much greater (you know the saying' more to go wrong)

But, Its the way the problems are delt with that is the measure of a good manufacturer. Sadly, Land Rover haven't been top of game recently, which is sad as I'm a patriotic guy and love to see English built stuff do well. It all went to pot when BMW pulled out and Ford got involved. A cash strapped firm of that size will do nothing to aid Land Rovers image and I feel given the chance, Ford would sell Land Rover tomorrow if the price was right. (As with Aston Martin) I hope this forum stays balanced, but remember, all firms have problems, but its how they deal with them that matters..... Jon

I own a 2004 Discovery and I bought it after my 1995 Discovery needed to be replaced. I did have my share of problems with the 1995 , but I lived with them . I bought the 2004 I guess hoping that Landrover hadworked out the problems of poor quality. Especially since for a short time they were owned by BMW. Well, Guess what , They still make a crappy vehicle , I just borught my car in as the service engine light came on , I have 57000 miles on the car so it is out of warranty, However , the problem is that the filler line to the gas tank has a pinhole leak and thus the car will never pass an emissions inpection check in NJ unless I fix the problem , This turns out to be an $1100 repair , Over $800 just for the part --a lousy pipe --- I guess Landrover knows how to make money sell lousy cars , and gouge people on the parts when they need replacement

I AM A VERY FUSTRATED BOY BECAUSE LANDROVER DISCOVERY 3'S ARE THE BEST CARS IN THE WORLD. AND IF YOUR LR HAS BROKEN DOWN IT IT ALL YOUR FALT!!!!!

The real evidence of Land Rover quality comes from warranty cost outlays, Kammerer said. While he would not disclose warranty cost per vehicle—that being a highly guarded secret at most automakers—Kammerer said costs are down by "well beyond 20 percent" since last year.

I was looking at the dis. but now i'm not sure. i hear good and bad, so what i'm supposed to do?

Owned my land rover discovery 2 for 5 years and regret every year of it. Poor quality, poor reliability and dealers that only want to cash in on the issues. Luckily I've been able to figure out most issues and making repairs my self. Major areas of concern, electrical and engine. engines are renowned for oil leaks and requiring cylander head work. front drive shaft joints fail.
Dont take my word for it...do your own reasearch go to discoweb.org or others, just search the forums for discussions on failures and hoe to repair items and you'll see that these are all regulare failures based on design & quality.

Putting all aside I still like my Rover and will never get the money back I've had to spend on maintaining it. hence I will run it to the ground...which will be the next time it breaks and will never go near another rover as long as I live. Please note: I'm a UK citizen living in the US for the last 10 years and sad to say that this brittish SUV realy sucks

I have to say...

Stop fucking moaning at land Rover.

I have 2. A 96 Disco and a 82 Series 3 Both of which are great cars. Land Rover were making great car. My Disco was built by Bmw and the series 3 was built by British leyland. I would start blaming ford for all the problems and lack of funding. Just wait until another company buys Landy and Jaguar. I promise you the build quality will go up! 10 fold.

I had a Disco II, which I did have a few problems with, particularly the turbo, but have been a very satisfied Disco III owner for a year. It is the best on/off road combo I have come across and I researched at length. On severely pot-holed gravel roads, I comfortably cruise at 80kph where other vehicles are rattling to pieces doing half that speed. Off road is effortless and my only gripe is the requency of punctures, which is hardly the vehicles fault. I would buy one again without hesitation.

I have a Discovery 3 for almost three years. There is a major issue regarding the theft of spare wheels recently. Generally I have been very pleased with the vehicle, huge improvement on the Disco 2. Has anybody else had this problem and how have Landrover responded to it?

just purchased the land rover discoverry for my duaghter. i proudly say recieved excellent serivce, excellent price and an excellent first car

I am a 2 time owner of the land rover series and have never had any problems with the used cars. i absolutely love the handling and safety features

I own a Disco 2 2.5 Deisal that I have had since new (2003). Apart from a couple of precautionary recalls by Rover I have not had a single problem. Interestingly I always wait for the ignitor light to go out before I start the engine - according to a Rover engineer he has never seen anyone bother to do this although it is a manufacturers recommendation. Perhaps respect for your vehicle whatever the make leads to better reliability. Here in the Peak District (if you are looking for the best place in the World to visit then you can't do better than come here) we probably have the highest density of Disco 2 & 3s due to the hills and dales and the need for transporting loads with ease and many of these have completed 500,000 miles or more and the owners swear by them as being totally dependable and a joy to drive bearing in mind we can see over the dry stone walls found all over the Peaks. The biggest disaster I ever had from the dozens of cars I have owned over the last 40 Year or so was a BMW series 5 that required a complete engine rebuild after only 60K miles. This was due to a cracked cylinder head that was made would you believe of aluminium in the hottest part of the engine. Still there you go every manufacturer has Friday cars but owners of BMWX5 having paid over the odds are never going to admit a mistake or is that BMW et al are better are keeping adverse comments about their vehicles hidden from us. Although Rover is no longer but was once, I owned a 800 Sterling and an engine was replaced outside warrenty at the factory at no cost to me. The fact that LR gave this person his money back along with this experience of mine when Rover was one company speaks volumes about them - how many other companies would do this and don't tell me that major issues do not arise with others. With regard to JD Power reports I ignore them or any other similar reports because 1. no one has asked me my opinion so 2. perhaps only moaning minnies reply to them.

i bought a disco 3 with 22500 miles, with the tyers worn on the inside, within the next 10000 miles had new steering rack ,top rear arm, top rear door catch, brake ware indicator did not work thus damaged the discs and alloy wheel, the 2 rear tyers replaced worn on the inside once again, after 14 days i got the car back and had to pay £646.00, now the brake lights are stuck on as well as electrical faults. this is a very comfortable car but the biggest heap of junk for faults. i am going back to toyota landcruiser, for the last one did over 500000 miles and is still going.

I am now on my third Disco 3 and this is by far and away the best of the bunch. Issues have been very few and far between (purchased January 2007) and any that have arisen (all very minor) have been very promptly resolved by the dealer (Matford Landrover of Exeter). I suspect that Landrover UK have addressed the many issues quietly behind the scenes, although that does not excuse their reprehensible practice of ignoring their customers in the past - in fact, the disdain with which Landrover seems to treated their loyal buyers(and dealerships!) has done far more to damage the marque's image than any real issues with the vehicles themselves!! I have said before on this blog that if you can find a reliable and conscientious dealership, when things do go wrong with your vehicle, the experience is far less stressful if you know that the dealership is wholeheartedly on your side - thank you, Matford!

Interesting Article

Just like they do to Adrain about the LRD3, people also write to me that the Audi Q7's do not have (too) many problems, yet I invite you to read this.

SPRING 2008: AUDI AND THEIR “RELIABLE” Q7 MODEL BRING US BACK TO THIS “Q7 ACCIDENT” BLOG

Follow Audi Q7’s new horror story on http://accident-audi-q7.skynetblogs.be/

YES I FEEL ALL OF YOUR PAIN PEOPLE
I USED TO WORK ON THE HEAPS OF RUBBISH AND LET ME TELL YOU NOTHING WILL CHANGE WITH THIS PRODUCT IF ANY THING ITS GOING TO GET WORSE NOW THAT IT IS IN INDIAN HANDS THEY WILL PUT THERE OWN BACKWARDS ENGINES AND WIRING IN THE LEMONS AND THE PAIN WILL CONTINUE FOR ALL WHO ARE SILLY ENOUGH TO PUCHASE ONE AND FI YOU DO BUY ONE YOU ARE IN NEED OF A CAT SCAN OR SOME MEDICAL HELP.

to all lr3 owners yes the tyres wearing out is a common problem along with air suspension problems along with oil leak problems along with electrical problems they are land rovers what were you expecting
when they build a new model they must not be testing them enough or they are using blind and deaf people to test them. they usually start getting better by the time they get to a series three of that model for example series three of a series threes disco then they will redesign the car with a whole new batch of problems.

It's not just the Disco's too - for a long time the Range Rover Classic and P38 were the only vehicles we had parts requests for, but over the last 6 to 8 months we've seen a huge increase in requests for parts to fit early L322 (2002 to 2004) vehicles - alot seem to be failing on the most basic and easily fixed parts.
