I am torn

Land Rover agreed to refund me the purchase price.

I spent the weekend eyeing all the competing cars on the road wondering what I would replace it with. Nothing turns me on at all: I drove all of them last year when I finally settled on the Disco 3 - its the undoubtedly the best of the SUV Class.

In any event, I need a 7 seater and this rules out most of the competition except the Volvo doesn't 'float my boat'... The Disco is the perfect car for my family and I. Yet the electronics system seems to fail it. I love the car in every other way - nothing touches it... yet ( in a spate of passionate disappointment and fury) I threaten to return it.... I really don't want to!

So I spoke to Stratstone of Mayfair, who have been very helpful and understanding in all of this. We are going to give it one last try… so I am taking the car in tomorrow and will leave it with them for as long as they want…. They have agreed to loan me an equivalent Discovery until they are absolutely certain that mine is 100%.

Do we have Disco deja vu here? Did exactly the same situation not exist with the first few builds of the first Disco and we all walked around with this one fearing exactly the same thing but taking some comfort from the raft of motoring jouralists telling us (including Clarkson driving one to the top of a Scottish Hill) that things were different this time round and that the build quality was better. Complete tonto!

However, in a years time where will we be? The X5 is already looking dated, The ML is away to be replaced, The Touraeg has not been the success that VW hoped it would be and resale values are softening and the XC90 is the only credible competition but again the drivetrain does not entertain an automatic diesel option. Conclusion: there will still be strong waiting lists for the Disco and it will still be a current model in 3 year time.

So stick with the new Disco - its also the best of the bunch from Land Rover right now.

A word of warning however. If you are buying a new one and pay up for the phone kit option make sure you ask them which phones it supports and how long it will take to get the 'cradle'(£89) for the phone. My one took a full 2 months from delivery time and then watch out if you have a Nokia 6230i rather than the older 6230 - it fits in the cradle no problem at all but the system does not recognise it - dont throw out your old 6230 just yet!

Firstly, I am a Land Rover fan, of Defenders that is. I own a 1952 Series 1 which is still faithfully belting along without a piip. Now, as regards all the blogged electronics problems and horror stories regarding the new Discovery 3, well, I am inclined to think that it was bound to happen. Why? 1. Buying new technology in cars is very risky. There tends to be a lead-in of 1 to 2 years before related problems are rectified. Even the top German brands have had electronics "challenges" with new technologies in the first few years of new models. So my advice to all of you would be to keep away from brand new technologies for a few years until problems are rectified. 2. Discovery 3 is so chock full of electronics - air suspension, traction this, stabilise that - that it will, in my opinion, be nightmareishly problematic and expensive to maintain when it gets beyong the threshold from newish to old car, and that's only after five years or so. That is why the only Land Rover I will be buying is a Defender (110 County SW). Though uncomfortable and noisy, it's tough, will last a long time, and overall it abides by the wise old adage "Keep It Simple", an adage many car brands are inclined to forget these days.

Just get it right Landrover,,,
I loved this vhicle at launch and couldnt weight to change my TD5 ES to a new TDV6 HSE so I placed my order for delivery on the 1St march 2005, It was late as the adaptive headlights had water in and needed replacing. I hadent had it at this point so not much of a problem but later plauged with broken seat mechanism, suspension fault, and water in the vhicle yes it came complete from manufacture with a free indoor swimming pool, thay said that at manufacture the pipe that drains water away from the sun roof had been severed and was draining into the vhicle until the carpets were so wet that it could hold no more water and it came over the top. At this point I rejected the vhicle at 8500 miles and 8 months old as water and all that metal and wires dong go well. thay agreed to change the vhicle but charged me 20p for every mile covered I reluctantly paid as I just wanted an end to this especialy after seing my vhicle with completly no interior and realised it would never go back the same. tah agreed to give me the new 2006 model HSE of which I took delivery last week, voice commands no longer work phone kit voice no longer works not like the old one that worked perfectly, suspension faults back and transmission faults now only 6 days old and 300 miles took it to dealers explained that in drive it keeps disingaging and engaging resulting in major problems, anyway took it to dealers who found a wire was trapped and shorting out thay replaced the wire today and I said brill I can pick it up tonight as I was going out and the small car landrover assist had gave was small so at 7 tonight I drove to the dealers who had left the car outside for me I started the engine put it into gear 'NOOOOO' it goes nowhere are these people totaly incompetent tomorrow I am going to see the dealership manager of Guy Salmons Stockport.
What does it take to get a good one maybe I would have better chances at becomming a millionaire on the lottery

Now its becomming widely know that a lot of positive comments about D3's are getting edited out from bloggs such as this one. Sure the owner got a friday afternoon car- should not have happened- but it did, the owner is going to be pedantic and keep all this stuff up as long as they can - to 'punish' LR- the D3 is car of the year for a second year,. Time to give all this nonesense a rest & get a life.....

I take it you own a disco 3 I have now had 3 and all are and were crap. my new 06 HSE which cost me £46k+ now comes with a free swimming pool and I will be rejecting it tomorrow I hope you have more luck with yours but I now know why ford are selling this company if it was my company I would sack them all…

3 Friday cars I don’t think so maybe the assembly line and quality control just have week days not fri days

Took delivery in Feburary 07 of a Discovery 3 SX with phone Kit. Very pleased with it. Clarkeson up the Scotish mountain was what sold it + a test in a demo car that my Nokia N73 would work via bluetooth (It Did). However it would be so much better if you could get a Land Rover Phone cradle fo a N73

Google Stillstand? Seit gut einer Woche taucht kein einziger Artikel, den wir schreiben, in den Index aufgenommen. Hat jemand ahnliche Erfahrungen? Normalerweise dauert das nur 1-2 Tage bis Google die Artikel im Index auffuhrt. Gehts es anderen auch so?
